1.Close the cap tightly after each use

Since oxygen breaks down vitamin C, be sure to keep the cap tightly closed each time you use it and try to limit the amount of time you leave the bottle open.
2.Store vitamin C serum in the refrigerator.
Vitamin C has a very short shelf life because it oxidizes or breaks down when exposed to oxygen. Your refrigerator is a great place to store your vitamin C serum, as refrigeration helps slow the oxidation process, rather than storing it at room temperature.
3.Do not store vitamin C serum in the bathroom.
The fluctuating heat and humidity in the bathroom can cause vitamin C serum to break down faster than in other rooms.
4.Transfer your serum to a smaller opaque container to help it last longer.
Instead of storing vitamin C serum in large containers, purchase or reuse smaller opaque glass bottles. Separate the serum between these bottles.
This will effectively prevent half of the serum from being exposed to oxygen, helping it to last longer.
5.Once it turns yellow or brown, discard your serum
As vitamin C serum oxidizes, it changes color. Once your serum turns yellow, red or brown, it is oxidized and will no longer be effective. [4]
For most formulas, this usually happens after about 3 months at room temperature or 5 months refrigerated, although the exact time will vary by brand.
